Visit the Orchard

When you’re in Guilford, a stop at Bishop’s Orchards is a must. Bishops’ routes date back to 1871 when it first opened its doors. Today, it is still a bustling orchard and farm market with fresh produce and vegetables. You’ll also find organic and specialty foods as well as locally-made wines.

Throughout the year, you can take advantage of pick-your-own fruits when they are in season. Strawberries, apples, and blueberries are among the most popular that are available. Bishop’s also has its own creamery that serves tasty treats. There’s something for everyone to enjoy during a trip to Bishop’s Orchards.

It preserves the historic Henry Whitfield House, home of Puritan minister Henry Whitfield.  You’ll find the museum in the city’s historic downtown district. It is Connecticut’s oldest existing historic home and the oldest preserved stone house in New England.

The Hyland House is another museum you’ll want to visit. It is named for George Hyland who was a settler who purchased the land back in 1657. Here you’ll find several hands-on programs, as well as tours that explore Guilford’s rich colonial history. It also has an 18th-century garden that features native Connecticut plants.

You can also make a stop at the Dudley Farm Museum, a living history museum.  It is home to a restored farmhouse, barns, and 10 acres of farm grounds.

Bike or walk the scenic trail for as long as you like while taking in the beautiful sights.
